For the series Golden Forest I travelled to the Amazon Forest to Colombia, Peru and Brasil. The jungle is for a mammal as I am a place with very extreme conditions. Nether the less it was for me very important to make this journey and to see it with my own eyes. This forest is a very rich and complex ecosystem, still not fully explored and without a complete investigation of biodiversity. Every year the deforestation cuts deeper and deeper to create farmland or simply to create charcoal. Apparently the economy needs more and more resources in order to grow. … this hypothesis gave me food for thought. Back in my studio I decided to work in this prints with materials that support the symbolism of this contradiction. I gold plated the wood panels with 24 karat gold leaf. Gold stands for wealth, standard of living, that continuously has rissen in the last decades. … In the second step I pulverised coal bricks in my coffee mill and used the coal powder, that used to be plants in the past, as pigment to print the images of the forest. The two materials forming these images display on one side the complexity and beauty of this ecosystem on the other side they create a sublime but as well melancholic appearance of a place that could disappear in the future.
